HARTSDALE, N.Y. -- Healthy food is all the rage and no more is that evident than at Green Organic Market in Hartsdale.

Green Organic Market, at 275 South Central Ave. opened its supplements store in October and opened the supermarket a few weeks ago. The supermarket features a juice bar and has plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.

The company is run by Joe Guernah, who operates several stores in New York City. Guernah, who lives in Westchester, wanted to open up a supermarket closer to home and with the closing of Mrs. Green's Hartsdale location, felt he was filling a void.

Janice Zaiman, who works at the supplement store, said the store has been selling a lot of vitamins and supplements and that her customers are very cognizant about what they put in their bodies.

"There's so much garbage that they put in food now," Zaiman said. "People, especially young people, are really conscious about eating healthy. People are much more careful."

At Green Organic Market, Zaiman said they've been selling a lot of probiotics and Omega 3 fish oil.

Zaiman said parents are often coming in looking for natural supplements to give their children rather than regular medicine.

"I've really enjoyed being here," Zaiman said. "Our owner really cares about serving the community."

Supervisor Paul Feiner said he appreciated that Green Organic Market chose to open in the Town of Greenburgh.

"Successful businesses and a vibrant business district are important to our community," Feiner said.
