The life-affirming fund raiser aimed at helping to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions will be held at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, Yorktown Heights. It will start with registration at 8:30 a.m., continue with the annual Walk/Run at 10 a.m. and conclude with an awards ceremony honoring the individual and team that raise the most funds.

“Once again, this annual fun and inspiring event will unite local businesses, community leaders, organizations, schools and individual supporters with Wish Families to help raise the funds needed to make the wishes come true for every eligible child,” said Thomas J. Conklin, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley. He added: “Our goal is to raise funds to help pay for the more than 150 pending wishes of children in the Hudson Valley who are life- threatening medical conditions.”

Conklin noted that the average cost of a wish ranges between $7,500 and $10,000. Since the Hudson Valley chapter was established 29 years ago, it has helped bring joy, strength and hope for more than 2,400 children between the ages of 21/2 and 18 and their families. The chapter serves eight counties: Delaware, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester.

In addition to walking or running, the chapter offers other opportunities for individuals, companies and organizations to support the special event including becoming a sponsor, making a donation and forming a team.

Special guest and Celebrity Event Chairman, Mike Bennett of WHUD’s Mike and Kacey in the Morning will emcee the day’s event and present the awards to the winners. Following the walk/run, there will be activities for the entire family including music and visits from kids’ favorite characters.

The Walk and 5K Run for Wishes is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels. Light refreshments will be provided. Participants interested can register in person on the day of the event from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. or online.
