Celebrating Community And The Spirit Of Giving At Hastings Village Crawl

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- "Tis the season for giving  -- and getting. And in Hastings, a town known for its community spirit, there's a lot of options for enjoying both, starting with the first-ever "Village Crawl," slated for Dec. 5 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Sixteen establishments are offering deals to those who purchase Destination Hastings boarding passes (five passes are $20) with 25 percent going to the Hastings Food Pantry.

Among the offerings: Two coconut pecan chewies at By The Way Bakery, butternut squash soup and Sam Adams Winter Lager beer at Forty North, half dozen wings at The Mill and Tuscan warm spiced wine at Harvest-on-Hudson.

Shops, too, are offering discounts, and/or hosting events, and making donations to the Food Pantry from their evening's proceeds.

Before eating and drinking your way through downtown, however, there's a tree to be lighted at VFW Park (Warburton Avenue and Spring Street) at  6 p.m. with live ice carving, holiday sing-alongs, and other festivities at James Harmon Community Center where hot chocolate and cookies will be served amidst a dazzling train display.

There will also be a "Special Visitor" for little ones so bring your camera/charge your I-Phone.

Guests are encouraged to bring a new toy to be given to a child in need or pajamas, socks and undershirts (size large or extra-large) for veterans at the VA Medical Center in Montrose.

All events are sponsored by the Village of Hastings-On-Hudson.

The Crawl is one way to instill excitement and celebrate all that Hastings has to offer, according to Barbara Prisament, Hastings' downtown advocate. It's also a way to attract other people from other towns. Prisament said she expects about 200 people though it's hard to gauge. "A lot of people say they're coming on our Facebook page but you never know."
