Sollee, a Kentucky native, composer, producer and environmental activist, recently produced his CD "Half Made Man", which showcases his ability to merge folk, classical, pop and R&B genres.
“[The cello is] as versatile as a Swiss army knife, but maintains a distinct voice," Sollee said. "So, when I was bouncing back and forth between my institutional life of studying classical and the vernacular music of my family and friends, like R&B, folk, and rock, the cello was always there for me.”
Opening for Sollee will be Nicolette Schoen and Jen Fischer, a local duo from Tarrytown who attend the Berklee College of Music and recently performed at a Purple Crayon open mic night. Sollee uses his art and "legs" to raise awareness of the amount of energy we use to travel by often riding a bicycle to performances with his cello strapped over his shoulder. He says the mode of transportation is a “reasonable response to the super-human-paced touring that us musicians find ourselves compelled to do." "I’ve been able to experience and be a part of communities that before, traveling by plane, train and car, I was just passing by," Sollee said.
