Adults and children of all ages are invited to celebrate the Jewish New Year with Rosh Hashana prayers and song. The event will include storytime, a shofar blowing contest and honey cake making, along with other activities.
During a Tashlich service, those who attend can participate in metaphorically throwing away their sins by throwing them into the Hudson River. The regular High Holiday services will still take place, at Chabad of the Rivertowns, 303 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry.
“According to tradition, at the New Year, the doors of Heaven are open; God accepts all prayers, from anyone,” Rabbi Benjy Silverman, Chabad’s executive director, said. “The least we can do is open our doors as well, to the entire community.”
Services are also planned to observe Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 23 and 10 a.m. Sept. 24 and 25; and toobserve Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, at 6:15 p.m. Oct. 3 and 10 a.m. Oct. 4. These services will be at Chabad of the Rivertowns.
Non-members are welcome to attend, and admission is free to all events. A children’s program will be held in conjunction with each adult service. Prayers will be in Hebrew and English.

Another event planned for all ages is the Shofar Factory. Students will have the opportunity to saw, drill and sand to make a shofar at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 7. Cost is $15 per shofar and RSVP is required.
