A confidential informant involved in an undercover operation with Allentown police on June 10 told officers that a woman, later identified as Claudia F. Carrion, was attempting to hire a "hitman" to kill her husband, according to Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin and Allentown police chief Glenn Granitz Jr.

Carrion later met with an undercover detective and told them she wanted her husband killed due to alleged abuse, but wasn't able to pay for it all upfront, Martin and Granitz Jr. said.

The two agreed on an amount of $4,000 for the "hit," authorities said. Carrion gave the detective $100 as an initial payment and promised to send weekly installments for the remaining balance.

At that point, she was taken into custody, authorities said.

Carrion is charged with one count of criminal solicitation to commit criminal homicide.

She is in Lehigh County Jail on $500,000 bail. Her preliminary hearing is set for July 8, court records show.
