Halloween Happenings In Hastings This Weekend

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Ghouls, goblins and ghosts will roam the streets of Hastings Sunday as the village celebrates Halloween with a day of spooky activities. “It’s a fun day to spend with the family,” said Kendra Garrison, recreation supervisor. “Especially when it’s nice out, it’s great to be outside.”

Residents can compete in a downtown window painting contest from 10 a.m. to noon and 3 to 5 p.m. The cost for a single participant is $5, $7 for a team of two and $10 for a family of up to four people. Children can enjoy a bounce house, trackless train, petting zoo and pony rides from 1 to 4 p.m. along Warburton Ave., which will be closed to traffic for the day.

There will also be a costumed Halloween parade at 1 p.m., starting at the James Harmon Community Center and ending at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Plaza.

And what would Halloween be without candy? Children can score heaps of sweets during trick or treating immediately following the parade. Local merchants participating in the event will have orange and black balloons in front of their stores.

For people without a sweet tooth, the Hastings Fire Department will hold a chili cook-off at the Veteran of Foreign Wars Plaza at 3 p.m. and local musician Joe Rooney will DJ the event, Garrison said. “This is his first year performing at this event, so we’re really excited,” Garrison said.
