Michael Bernardo, 84, Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. – Michael A. Bernardo, of Stamford, died Friday, Feb. 26. He was 84.

He was born in Millstone Township, New Jersey, on May 9, 1931, to the late Angelo and Marie Zezima Bernardo. He moved to Stamford with his family at a young age, attended Stamford schools and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a licensed barber and proprietor of the Hoyt-Bedford Barber Shop for many years. He later worked in the insurance industry for the John Hancock Insurance Company.

He is survived by his brothers, Anthony Bernardo and his wife, Lillian, of Trumbull, Joseph Bernardo and his wife, Lonnie, of Stamford, and Robert Bernardo and his wife, Marybeth, of Jacksonville, Florida; and nieces, nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call Wednesday from 9-11 a.m. at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, with a prayer service following at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Silver Source of Stamford, 2009 Summer St., Stamford, CT 06905.
