James Gordon Moore "was upset about a package not being delivered [...] Moore jumped over the counter and punched the victim in the head several times before being knocked unconscious," the USPS employee told the SRPD officers.
Officers were called to the scene of the assault at the Marietta Post Office located at 16 North New Haven Street at 12:56 p.m. on Monday, March 25.
The postal worker was found "lying behind the counter bleeding," police stated in the release, "the victim dazed and confused with facial injuries."
Moore had remained on the scene and police explained that he was taken into custody without further incident.
He was charged with Felony Aggravated Assault Aggravated - Attempts to cause Serious Bodily Injuries or causes injury with extreme indifference, the police said and court records confirmed.
His preliminary arraignment was held before Magisterial District Judge Michael D. Hess. at 4:17 p.m. Monday after. His bail was set at $200,000 — which was posted by a professional bondsman Christian Deardorff on March 27, according to his court docket. His preliminary hearing is set before Hess at 9 a.m. on April 2.
Moore has a history of traffic offenses but this is his first criminal charge, court records show.
