PELHAM, N.Y. Threats from an emotionally disturbed man forced a Metro-North train to make an unscheduled stop at the Pelham train station Monday afternoon. Police swept the train and found no harmful materials.
The train left New Haven at 12:57 p.m. and was due to arrive at Grand Central Station at 2:41 p.m., according to Marjorie Anders, spokesperson for the MTA. The train normally runs express.
While en route to Grand Central Station, the man began ranting and raving about the items in his backpack, Anders said. Anders did not know what exactly the man said.
The man disturbed passengers enough that the conductor decided to stop the train at the Pelham station, where passengers evacuated.
MTA police responded and searched both the mans backpack and the train itself. Officers found no explosives or any other harmful items. Police put everyone back on the train and sent it on its way at 2:55 p.m.
Anders did not know if police arrested and charged the man or hospitalized him.
