DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- The ribbon will be cut at Mercy College’s new residence hall in Dobbs Ferry at ceremonies at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18, school officials said.

The college broke ground on the project in September, 2014. The hall is scheduled to be open for students next month.

The student commons includes a Starbucks Café and convenience store, Student Life offices, a large community meeting space, and a lounge.

Other amenities include an outdoor central pedestrian quad and exterior gathering areas, the college said.

Mercy College President Tim Hall said the new residence hall “will help increase student engagement on campus and build a sense of community.”

The college has a vested interest in seeing its students succeed, he said.

Providing places and opportunities for students “connect with one another” will promote that, Hall added.

The new 100,000-square-foot, four-story tall complex also contains a 5,000-square-foot fitness center.

Its name will be unveiled at the ceremony.

The hall is a sustainable project, having qualified for NYSERDA financial incentives, Hall said.

He said the project exceeds the state’s Energy Code requirements because it has water and lighting efficiencies, and uses recyclable, regionally-produced materials.

A rain garden and bicycle storage also contribute to the project’s sustainability, Hall said.
