DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The atmosphere was festive Saturday afternoon as residents, vendors and musicians gathered on Cedar and Main Streets for the 10th annual Dobbs Ferry Festa.

The overcast sky kept temperatures cool while families strolled up and down the festival, playing games and sampling treats. Many local businesses set up shop outside on the street, bringing in customers in hopes that they would return.

The Festa originally began in the 1960s and '70s before it fell by the wayside. The annual outdoor festival was revived in 2002. Festa committee chair Paddy Steinschneider said the event was focused on celebrating the community.

Police blocked traffic to both main thoroughfares, increasing traffic in the village. Cars lined Route 9 and the Stop and Shop parking lot as more than 1,000 festival-goers flocked to the downtown area.

Actually, it was thousands, not hundreds. The official counts vary, but it is more than 10,000. Thanks so much to everyone for participating. The people that I brought in from out of town to check it out, who deal with urbanism as a day job, were overwhelmed by the sincerity of the event and the diversity of the community.

Woodlands Community Temple, a Reform temple in Greenburgh, had a great time as a vendor at their first Dobbs Ferry Festa. Our booth was manned by many Dobbs Ferry residents and we enjoyed seeing neighbors, friends old and new on the streets. The event was beautifully organized; everything from set-up to breakdown went smoothly. Thanks so much for a terrific day! www.wct.org

Congratulations to the village of Dobbs Ferry for a terrific event. The music was great, the food terrific. The vendors and information tables were interesting and helped make the day very special. The Festa is community at its best. It highlights why Dobbs Ferry and the river villages are great places to live, work and shop at. I enjoyed chatting with many friends and neighbors.

Thanks so much for the coverage of our event. While it was a little cool weather-wise, the spirits and smiles were warm. Thanks to everyone who attended and participated. It really is a celebration of community and a way for everyone to see how rich we are in diversity and good people. Special thanks to Mayor Connett for keeping his promise of delivering good weather, as well as his many other efforts without which the Festa could not happen. Same to all of the Trustees who let us do this. It was good to see that they were all at the Festa having a great time.
