Rivertowns To Celebrate Aquefest On Saturday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Rivertowns residents can learn more about the Old Croton Aqueduct and enjoy all the trail has to offer on Saturday at the eighth annual Aquefest, hosted by the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct.

The daylong event will feature music, activities, tree rides, bike tours, duck races, bird feeding, puppet shows, pony rides and more at designated celebration stations along the 26-mile Aqueduct in Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, Irvington and Yonkers.

“Aquefest celebrates the OCA’s vivid history, scenic beauty and connection to the communities it touches,” Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct Board member and Aquefest Producer Eileen Cardinal Charles said in a statement.

This year’s event will focus on creative interactive programming to allow residents to explore the history of the aqueduct, Charles said. It is also partnering with Teens Run Yonkers, a nonprofit youth marathon training group, which will hold a 3-mile run from Shonnard Terrace in Yonkers to Washington Avenue in Hastings.

The Bike Walk Alliance of Westchester and Putnam, Southern Westchester Energy Action Consortium and the Westchester Cycle Club will also join the events, hosting the 2nd Annual Rivertowns Roll, a 10-mile family bike ride and 30-mile course for experienced riders, according to the statement.

The event is free, but donations will be accepted. Visit the Aquefest website for a complete list of events and schedules.
