Spoken Interludes Opens Season With Hastings Book Reading

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- The book-reading program "Spoken Interludes" opens its 17th season Wednesday at the RiverView in Hastings.

Novelist and actress DeLauné Michel, founder of Spoken Interludes , will introduce authors Nathan Englander, Blake Baily and Sonia Taitz, who will offer readings from their work beginning at 7:30 p.m. Michel is an Irvington resident and the author of "Aftermath of Dreaming" and "The Safety of Secrets." Englander is the author of a short story collection called "The Relief of Unbearable Urges," published in 1999.

Bailey, who has written biographies for Phillip Roth, Richard Yates and John Cheever and Taitz, is the author of "In the King's Arms" and "Mothering Heights."

Englander will read from his new collection "What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank" and Taitz will share from her bestselling memoir "The Watchmaker’s Daughter."

Bailey will read key passages from his new book, "Farther and Wilder: The Lost Weekends and Literary Dreams of Charles Jackson."

Book-reading evenings are also scheduled for April 17 and May 7.

Wednesday's program will be preceded by a buffet dinner at 6 p.m. catered by Chutney Masala chef Navjot Arora. The cost per person is $25 payable by check or cash at the door. Checks should be made out to Chutney Masala. The RiverView bar only accepts cash.

The authors will sign books from 8:30 to 9 p.m. Books can be purchased from on-site representatives of The Village Book Store of Pleasantville, N.Y. by cash, check or credit card.
