The American Cancer Society says that 13 Relay for Life events have been scheduled for May 20 through June 19.

The community-led events will be held in: Eastchester, Mamaroneck, Chappaqua, Harrison, Katonah-Lewisboro, the Tarrytowns, Yorktown, Yonkers, Somers, Ossining and the Hendrick Hudson School District.

The two college sponsored ones – for students, staff and alumni – will be held at Iona College and Pace University.

The Iona event will take place April 8-9 at Mulcahy Gym. For more information, click here.

The Pace University event is set for April 21-22 at Goldstein Fitness Center. For more information, click here.

Each participating community needs volunteers to help plan, promote, raise funds for, and set up events. They are also needed to organize a cancer survivor reception, among other things.

Every helping hand is welcome, even if it can only be offered for a few hours, said ACS’s Megan McGrady.

The Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fund-raising event to save lives from cancer.

“Uniting communities across the globe, we celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change,” said Patti Lestrange Mack, Communications Manager, American Cancer Society.

The society said funds raised provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations.

It has invested more than $4.5 billion in research since 1946, and has funded more than 20,000 scientists at more than 1,000 institutions nationwide.
