What's Happening Around Hastings This Weekend

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – A weekend-long poetry festival, artist studios tours and string orchestra performances are some of the events planned in and around the villages of Hastings and Dobbs Ferry this weekend. Please see our events page for additional activities in the area.

Friday, April 20

Sarah Lawrence College Poetry Festival: 1 p.m. Readings by Sarah Lawrence students, alums and poets from around the world, and a number of receptions and panel discussions are some of the highlights of the 2012 festival. The events take place at various locations on the Sarah Lawrence College campus, starting at 1 p.m. and continuing on until 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The college is located at 1 Mead Way.

“Return” Screening: 8 p.m. The Irvington Town Hall Theater will screen the film “Return” and feature a Q-and-A with executive producer Meredith Vieira and writer-director Liza Johnson. 85 Main St., Irvington.

Sarah Lawrence String Orchestra: 8 p.m. Sungrai Sohn conducts the Sarah Lawrence String Orchestra. For more information, call 914-395-2412. Sarah Lawrence College's Reisinger Concert Hall, 1 Mead Way, Bronxville.

Ninth Annual YOHO Artists Open Studios: 12 p.m., The open studio event and includes artists from all backgrounds: painting, sculpting, collage, photography, music and much more. Explore the blossoming cultural flavor that is unique to Southern Westchester and learn about the artistic experiences, inspirations, motivations, emotions and history in the creation of art. YOHO Artist Studios are the SOHO of Yonkers. 540 & 578 Nepperhan Avenue, at the former Alexander Smith Carpet Mills Buildings. 

Sunday, April 22

Cassatt Quartet: 3 p.m. Scarsdale composer Gerald Cohen's "Playing for Our Lives" will be among the featured pieces when the Cassatt String Quartet plays at Shaarei Tikvah. The synagogue's annual concert also is Shaarei Tikvah's observance of Yom Hashoah — Holocaust Remembrance Day. The concert is open to the public, no tickets required. A $20 suggested donation will be welcomed at the door and part of the proceeds will go to the Anne Frank Center in New York City. 46 Fox Meadow Road, Scarsdale.

Sarah Lawrence String Orchestra: 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Conductor Sungrai Sohn will lead the orchestra’s performance of Vivaldi’s “Spring” and Gershwin’s “Lullaby,” among other classics at the Reisinger Concert Hall, 1 Mead Way.

Clearwater Earth Day Benefit Concert: 7 p.m. Featured artists, such as Tom Paxton and Cheryl Wheeler, salute Woody Guthrie in concert. Tarrytown Music Hall, 13 Main St., Tarrytown.
