Sounds straightforward, right? But with a dizzying array of options – everything from old-school red sauce joints to modern takes on Grandma’s homemade cooking to trattorias with gourmet pizzas -- the answer can be hard to answer.

We asked for your favorites; five have been narrowed down as part of our contest and those finalists are being profiled this week.

Voting continues until 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28. You can vote multiple times, albeit once per day.

Grab a fork, read on, and let your fingers do the clicking. The winner will receive a framed DVlicious certificate as well as the pride in knowing it offers a taste of Italy close to home.

What Makes It Pasta Perfect: Apologies to Meghan Trainor, but in Scaramella’s case, it’s all about the sauce, all about the sauce. According to owner Nilde Scaramella, some of its pastas are homemade while others are boxed. But either way, it’s what’s on top that counts, whether it comes alla vodka or fra diavolo.

Nilde and her husband, Vincenzo, both hail from southern Italy’s Calabria region. Picky about the peeled tomatoes he uses, Vincenzo only buys them from one supplier, San Marzano. And as far as meats such as veal and fish such as Chilean sea bass go, Nilde says, “Only the best.”

Worth Special Mention: Founded in 1992, old-timey Scaramella’s attention to detail, consistency and generous portions have kept customers coming back for nearly 25 years.

The Zagat rated eatery has a newly decorated dining room. And its  burrata, a fresh Italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream, has been dubbed "perfect" by customers in many online reviews.
