The shop is in the Movie House Mews, a converted theater built in 1920 and restored as commercial space.

On top of retail sales, DIY/workshops and classes taught by master artists and craftsmen in the field are also planned. The shop also features a gallery space showcasing works in miniature by artisans from all over the world.

Shop owner Darren Thomas Scala is a Brooklyn-born artist and brand marketer in the corporate beauty and cosmetics categories.

Scala says, "I've always had a passion for miniatures. It's been my dream to create a space where I could introduce miniatures to the public and generate the same level of excitement I have for these pieces."

Scala was inspired at 8 years old. That was when his cabinetmaker father built him his very first dollhouse, solidifying and encouraging his interest in all things small.

"There is seduction in scale that trancends time," Scala explains. "Miniatures truly capture the imagination and provide opportunity to dream, discover and explore. I'm excited to be able to share this world in new ways and to part of the Hastings-on-Hudson business community."

The shop is not yet online, but a fully integrated e-commerce website is expected to launch in early 2015.

Hours of operation are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. The shop is closed on Mondays, and it is open evenings by appointment.
