TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Residents of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow will meet at RiverWalk Park on Saturday, April 19, for the villages' Appreciation Day presented by Friends of RiverWalk-Tarrytown.

Appreciation Day organizers will honor Kathryn Wasserman Davis, a former Tarrytown resident and supporter of the RiverWalk who passed away last year at age 106.

"Kathryn was the most amazing and wonderful person and contributed so much to making the RiverWalk a reality," Friends Co-President Pat Jones said. "She loved the Hudson River and was kayaking (at 106) and enjoying life fully. We are proud to honor her memory."

Davis played a leading role in the reopening of the Kingsland Point Park Bathhouse and adding to the RiverWalk Park, as well preserving the Hudson River. She contributed $1 million to the RiverWalk project, which includes Westchester County and New York state in the development of walkways all along the Hudson River.

The Friends ask neighbors and residents to "bring gloves and hand tools for weeding and clipping" as the group helps maintain the Hudson River waterfront park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Participants are asked to meet at the end of West Main Street. Saturday's temperatures are expected to return to a springlike 60 degrees.

Saturday Friends of the RiverWalk cleanup events are also scheduled for May 17, June 21, July 19, Aug. 16, Sept. 20 and Oct. 18.
