Dobbs Ferry Native Max Greenfield Gets Emmy Nod

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - When Dobbs Ferry native Max Greenfield received word he had been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award early Thursday morning, there were a few moments of disbelief, and then it was business as usual.

"We got phone calls, there was screaming and then there were tears, and then there was disbelief, and then I went to work," Greenfield, a star of the Fox sitcom "New Girl" said to The Insider in an interview on Thursday.

The 1998 graduate of Dobbs Ferry High School was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his role as "Schmidt." In what many viewers and critics expected to be the Zooey Deschanel (half) hour, the breakout star of the Fox show was Greenfield's neurotic, goofy, but strangely compelling Schmidt, one of Deschanel's three male roommates.

Greenfield was less than boastful talking about his lovable character in an interview with GQ earlier this year. "I do think the ultimate heart of the show comes from Zooey's character and the rest of us play around that," he said. Deschanel was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

A few of Greenfield's comedic moments include suffering a penile fracture, donning a fat suit for flashbacks to Schmidt's larger college days, going shirtless in almost every episode and stuffing money into the "douche jar," created for Schmidt's endless inappropriate remarks.

Greenfield took to his official Twitter account to comment on his Emmy nod: "I feel very fortunate to be a part of a show like New Girl! I love television and all of you."

Longtime Bedford resident Glenn Close was nominated in the category of Best Lead Actress in a Drama for her role as ruthless lawyer Patty Hewes on the show "Damages."

Two other Westchester natives are also attached to Emmy-nominated shows this year. Bedford native Kate Mara played a recurring role on "American Horror Story," nominated for Outstanding Miniseries or Movie. Susie Essman, a Mount Vernon native and SUNY Purchase alum, plays obscenity-ridden Susie Green on "Curb Your Enthusiasm," nominated for the Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Greenfield was heading to the set of "They Came Together," a movie starring Paul Rudd filming in New York City, when he heard the news. He said he had hard time believing it.

"Two years ago I was auditioning for Zeke and Luther," Greenfield said, referring to the Disney show about two skateboarding teenagers. "And now I'm walking to hair and makeup and Paul Rudd is congratulating me on my Emmy nomination. I don't know what's happening."

Greenfield said that he wasn't worried about not receiving a nomination. "I was more worried about what if it does happen," he said. "The idea that it was a possibility was a little nerve-racking."
