Scheduled for families looking for activities after camp season ends, children ages 9-14 will complete a series of hands-on challenges leading up to the main event - constructing life-sized chairs of their very own design.

The Dobbs Ferry partners join ArchForKids Co-Founder Janny Gédéon in the unique design teaching experience.

"Along the way they will learn to use the tools and strategies of architects and designers," Slocum said of the camp. "A community opening and exhibition of campers’ work on the last day of camp will celebrate the children’s new creations." Slocum, the business development director for ArchForKids, has more than 25 years of experience working for cultural and educational organizations, primarily in fundraising. She has worked for the Architectural League of New York, the Hudson River Museum, MASS MoCA, and many other places.

"ArchForKids provides hands-on learning experiences grounded in architecture, engineering, urban planning and design." Slocum said. "Karen and Janny have over 20 years experience teaching in New York City public schools, museums and community centers across the five boroughs."

Orloff, the co-founder and design facilitator of ArchForKids, worked in architecture and design for 10 years in New York and LosAngeles before beginning her work teaching environmental education for the New York Botanical Garden. Five years ago, she began working with New York city school children and teachers, helping them to see the beauty of math and science through architectural investigations.

Gédéon, co-founder and design facilitator of ArchForKids, graduated with a BA in architecture from the City College of New York and a Masters of Science in urban planning from Hunter College. In 1997, she was asked to participate in a career day at a Brooklyn middle school. That experience inspired her to pursue a career dedicated to making learning more meaningful, and one that combined her passions for architecture and teaching. Tuition for Chair Masters Design Studio is $325, all materials are included (campers bring own lunch). To register, log onto the Curious-on-Hudson website or phone 914-412-8393.
