HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- For Maria Churchill, the owner of maisonette in Hastings-On-Hudson, stocking the throws from in2green.com was a no-brainer when she opened her shop two and a half years ago.

For one, the company is based in Hastings with a warehouse in Yonkers so the fact that they are local was a big incentive. But even more: She loved the products and the message they stand for.

The company, eight years old and counting, is all about designing modern sustainable home accessories minimizing environmental impact, promoting green jobs and creating American-made manufacturing opportunities. The fact that the company includes Hastings women (two of which met at the dog park) was icing on the cake.

"The company is right here, so if I ever need anything or run out of stock, they drop if off on they way home from Yonkers," said Churchill.

Co-owner Lori Slater, who has a background retail and design said the story of in2green.com started from a conversation with a friend, Co-Owner (and fellow Hastings resident) Stefanie Zeldin who  has a textile design design background.

The line is always expanding, adding new modern, coastal and equine designs as well as an eco knit accessories and baby products with pet items next on the agenda, according to Slater.

Churchill said the products are easy to take care of — “they can be thrown in the washer and dryer!" -- which adds to their allure.

She also loves their punchy colors and  modern, trendy graphics. "They are very substantial, very well-made knits," she said.

A look at the company's website shows how the products segue from T-shirt clippings to yarn to throws, apparel and more. All knits and woven products are made from sustainable materials, including organic and recycled cotton.

Go to www.in2green.com for more information. The line is also sold locally at Breeze in Chappaqua, Current Home in Scarsdale and Back 40 Mercantile in Old Greenwich, Conn.
