The album, entitled "Reckoning," will be the main focus of her performance at Beczak Environmental Education Center as part of the Urban H20 music series on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Her father, Harry Chapin, was an American singer-songwriter best known for his folk rock songs including the No. 1 hit "Cat's in the Cradle."
Jen, who lives in Brooklyn, has roots in Westchester, though she grew up in Long Island. In 2005, her mother sold their house and moved out to Ossining.
She has a brother, Jason Chapin, who is town councilman in New Castle and lives in Chappaqua, and a sister, Sarah Chapin Miller, who is a realtor in Ardsley.
"Westchester is a relatively new home base," she told The Daily Voice, adding she visits mostly for holidays.
Her new album focuses on the delicate balance of living as an artist and a mother. She has two sons with her husband, Stephan Crump, a Grammy-nominated bassist.
"I consider this to be a theme album, because it's very much centered around family and my life now which is, as with so many people, a balance of work and family," she said.
However, the album also has an activist twist, addressing world hunger. Her song, "Feed Your Baby," is directly influenced by her work as a philanthropist and volunteer towards giving everyone good nutrition.
While there is no question her musical career was bolstered by her father's success, she feels she has made a name for herself in her own right.
"The great thing is that throughout my career, I've had a prettty clear vision of what my sound is and what I love. A sense of authenticity in myself is, in reality, all that I have," she said.
Though Harry Chapin died in 1981, when Jen was only 10, she said she had a great relationship with him.
"He was a fantastic dad," she said. "He was very much engaged with his kids, and wanted to be there. He was a very present person, very activity oriented. He was some sort of a hyperactive, and we did lots of things together."
The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and the venue is located at 35 Alexander Street. Tickets will be sold at the venue.
