JoAnn Reed, Director of Youth Advocacy for the Village of Hastings-On-Hudson, says the program is geared towards the high school population and services approximately 60 teenagers on a typical weekend. Since starting 17 years ago, the Safe Rides program has helped to significantly reduce alcohol related injuries and accidents in the village according to Reed.

"The amount of calls we receive can vary based on weather or different local activities such as homecoming. I don’t anticipate a huge number of calls for this evening only because it's so cold," she said.

This program runs almost every weekend during the year with annual fundraising covering the program.
