HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Tiny tennis players showed off their backhands, returned shots from instructors and enjoyed face painting and other activities Sunday when the Tennis Club of Hastings hosted its "Kids Day Tennis Carnival" at its waterfront facility.
The "Kids Tennis Carnival" is one of the first community outreach events at the tennis center since its reopening after renovations to the club, which was hit hard by Superstorm Sandy last year.
"We wanted to let the community know we're back operating and offering great programming," adult instructor Millie Didio said as she worked with a group of young tennis players. "We have some very good children who play here. This kind of event helps kids get to know the game."
Dozens of children moved from court to court, jumped in the Bouncy Castle, had their faces painted and enjoyed lunch in the clubhouse. The Tennis Club offers tennis instruction for all ages, beginning with Pee Wees from ages 3-5 and 10-Under lessons.
The next event on the Tennis club calendar is the TCH Doubles Round Robin set for Saturday.
