DOBS FERRY, N.Y. - Robert "Bob" E. Coulehan Jr., a longtime resident of Dobbs Ferry, died March 16. He was 87.

An accomplished scientist, Coulehan worked in the field of aerodynamics. Locally, he participated in the Westchester Concert Singers.

Coulehan had a long scientific career, first as an aerodynamics systems engineer with Chance-Vought Aircraft in Dallas, Texas, then as a materials research scientist with American Cyanamid in Stamford, Conn. and then as a senior staff scientist with Ciba Geigy Corporation in Ardsley.

After retiring from Ciba Geigy, Coulehan worked as a consultant to the aviation industry in the field of advanced composites. He was a member of the Society of Rheology, the American Physical Society and the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering.

A licensed amateur radio operator for more than 45 years, Coulehan served as a volunteer with the Navy Military Auxiliary Radio System during the Vietnam War.

Coulehan was also a gifted singer and was a member of several choral groups. He and his wife were opera devotees, holding longtime memberships with the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Opera. They also loved ballroom dancing. His wife, Rosina, predeceased him in 2009.

He is survived by his sister Mary Killary, his children Jeanne Coulehan, Susan (Peter) Porcino, Vincent (Dolores) Coulehan, Mary (Jerry) March and Robert E. (Nancy) Coulehan III and his nine grandchildren.
