Dobbs Ferry Ready to Dine for School Night Out

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Families and restaurants in Dobbs Ferry will be coming together to benefit local schools in the village next week.  The Dobbs Ferry PTSA, along with the Schools Foundation and the Downtown Improvement Committee has organized the sixth School Night Out.

“It’s really nice for families and people to get out and eat because everybody has really hectic schedules with their kids,” said Dobbs Ferry PTSA treasurer Teresa Walsh.  “So this is a night people can get out with their kids.”

Money raised from the School Night Out will be donated to the Dobbs Ferry school district and its science labs, which are currently under construction in the high school.

“[The restaurants] donate 10 percent of their full price dinners and this year it’s going to the science labs,” Walsh said.  “We’re giving money to the school district and they’ll go from there.”

The event will be held Tuesday Oct. 25 and diners merely need to bring slips to the restaurant of their choice stating that they’re there for School Night Out.  If you don’t have a slip of your own though, there’s no need to worry.

“If you go in and say we’re from School Night Out at one of these 10 restaurants, then they’ll honor that,” Walsh said.   “Absolutely there will be extra slips there in the restaurants.”

Participating restaurants include Cedar Street Grill, Dobbs Diner, Doubleday’s, Harper’s, Lemon Tree, Off Broadway, Orissa, Sam’s Italian Restaurant, Sushi Ninja and Tomatillo.

Even if you’re too busy to stop in and sit down for dinner, Walsh said restaurants will honor the donation for take our orders as well.

“The downtown improvement committee just thought that we should help the restaurants and the businesses in the community,” Walsh said of the fundraiser.  “We picked Tuesday because it’s probably an off night for the restaurants.”
