DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Eugene Leo McDonald, a longtime Dobbs Ferry resident, died Feb. 6. He was 83.
A retired executive, McDonald spent many years acting as an official for local sports games.
He was born in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Bernard and Josephine McDonald. He served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. After marrying Shirley Barnd on Sept. 10, 1955 in St. Paul, they moved to Dobbs Ferry in 1962 to raise a family.
McDonald worked as an account executive for Shell Chemicals and retired after 26 years. Following his retirement, he became active in Dobbs Ferry sports programs. McDonald had a passion for being a baseball umpire and official for high school sports. He held memberships to the Westchester County Baseball Umpire's Association and the Westchester County Football Official's Association since 1983.
Surviving are his sons Brian (Carol Ann), Timothy (Sandy) and Alan (Vickie) McDonald and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley in 1988 and his daughter Jenny in 1996.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry. The funeral mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at Church of the Sacred Heart in Dobbs Ferry.
