Dobbs Ferry's Mercy College Interim President Has Family Ties To Village

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- New Jersey native Concetta M. Stewart is the interim president of Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, which is fitting. It turns out she married into a family with plenty of history tied to the village.

Mercy College Interim President Concetta M. Stewart recently discovered that her husband is the great-grandson of the first mayor of Dobbs Ferry.

Stewart's husband is the great-grandson of the village's first mayor, James H. Pooley. Stewart says the relation came to light when a relative of her husband’s notified him of the discovery.

Stewart shared the news with current Mayor Hartley Connett during a recent meeting.

Connett, who had recently acquired a portrait of Pooley for Dobbs Ferry Village Hall, was just as surprised as Stewart by the discovery.

“Just goes to show you the importance of preserving Dobbs Ferry’s history," Connett said in a statement.
