DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Stefania Rusinko, of Dobbs Ferry, died Dec. 18. She was 93.
Born in Poland, she was the daughter of Gabriel and Catherine Smerechniak. Rusinko moved to the United States when she was 18 years old. Unable to speak English when she first arrived, she took various jobs as a housekeeper and at Schrafft's Restaurant in New York City.
Later, Rusinko worked at Eastern Aircraft, a factory that produced fighter jets during World War II. An excellent gardener and cook, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son John Rusinko, her daughter Anne Behuniak, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband John.
Visiting will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday with funeral service panakhyda at 7:30 p.m at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yonkers.
