Evans Keeps it Local at Audrey's

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- Audrey Evans has been doing business in Dobbs Ferry for years and her newest store has been open for nearly two years now. Audrey's on Main Street is Evans' second store after closing her old one of nine years in 2006. After taking a few years off, Evans opened the new shop, located on Main Street and centered in the downtown area that sees much foot traffic throughout the day.

Evans was always interested in the business side of things as she worked in management before launching her entrepreneurial efforts.

"I worked for Lord & Taylor for a long time as an executive and I just said, 'Well I'll try it and see what happens,'" she said.

Specializing in bath products, candles, lotions and other home accessories, Evans said she also likes her store to reflect the community.

"We have a local artist who does pottery and that does very well," she said. "[We also have] pillows made by local women. They're all mostly one of a kind, mostly designer style pillows."

Throughout the year, Evans will feature the work of local artists in all different types of styles whether it is paintings or pillows.

"What's nice about Audrey's store, being a small neighborhood boutique is she can do that," said store manager Kathy Riordan. "She loves the relationship between herself and the store, which is nice. It's nice to have the venue to support a lot of local artists."

Evans likes to keep her store local in every way possible, including the professional products she sells.

"We try and find unique things," she said. "I try and stay away from products that are made in China. I think we're flooded with China merchandise and we have to support our own."
