Former Dobbs Ferry Bakery Owner Turco Dies at 89

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Edith Turco, of Dobbs Ferry, died Feb. 4 after a brief illness. She was 89.

Born in Elmsford, Turco was a resident of Dobbs Ferry since 1943 when she married her husband Peter. Together, they owned and operated Turco's Bakery on Main Street in Dobbs Ferry until 1965. 

Turco later became a volunteer with St. Cabrini Nursing Home. She was also a parishioner of Our Lady of Pompeii Church.

She is survived by her sons Peter (Sandy) Turco and Edward (Sally) Turco, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law. She was predeceased by her husband Peter and her sisters Nettie Meta and Angela Melito.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry. The funeral mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at Our Lady of Pompeii Church. A burial ceremony will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson at 11 a.m.
