Former Dobbs Ferry Secretary, Applegate Dies at 84

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Former Dobbs ferry resident, Margaret Fortuso Applegate died Dec. 29 Hudson Valley Rehabilitation in Highland, N.Y. She was 84. 

Born in Trenton, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Pone. She lived in Port Chester and Dobbs Ferry for many years before moving to Cold Spring, N.Y. Applegate worked as a secretary at Westchester County Medical Center. 

She is survived by her daughter Geri Fanelli of Saugerties, N.Y., her sons Nicholas Fortuso of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and Frank Fortuso of Saugerties, her sister Carolyn Lestician of Trenton, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husbands Nicholas Fortuso and Harry Applegate, her brother Sam Pone and her sister Mary Buckhardt.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home in Kingston, N.Y. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery in Rye Brook will take place in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090.
