HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Maurice J. Heiss, a lifelong Hastings resident, died Nov. 19. He was 84.
Born on April 18, 1927 to the late Mae and John Heiss, he was the fourth of five children. Heiss was a World War II veteran and worked for Anchor Motor Freight in Little Ferry, N.J. He retired from St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, where he worked for many years.
On Nov. 4, 1945, he married Anne T. Doran who predeceased him after 52 years of marriage. Heiss was also a volunteer firefighter with the Uniontown Hose Fire Company in Hastings.
Surviving are his daughters Kathleen (Pete) DeFoor, Tina (Gary) Albanese and Tara (Dirk) Boersma, twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Heiss was predeceased by his daughter Maureen, his brothers John and Edward and his sisters Margaretta and Catherine.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry. The funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Church of St. Matthew in Hastings, followed by interment at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New York State Veterans Home, 2090 Albany Post Rd., Montrose, NY 10548, or Hospital at Montrose.
