HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. Local children filled the Hastings Community Center on Saturday morning to share a breakfast with Santa Claus. Several long tables filled the center as breakfast was served and then the kids had the opportunity to take their picture with Santa and talk about what presents they most wanted.
She loved it, said Hastings resident Tim Smith of his daughter seeing Santa. Its the second year weve done this and its really the first year she recognized him.
Hastings recreation assistant Lisa OReilly said the breakfast was something thats become quite popular in the village each year. Its a holiday celebration, she said. We have breakfast and your chance to drop off your wish list to Santa. Its just an opportunity for the community to get together for the holidays.
Smith, who grew up in the city, said the local community events like this one are what make the village what it is. I think its in the spirit of the village, he said. It gives people the face time with their neighbors. Its really what I think a small village is all about.
