Hastings Ponders Midweek Fourth of July

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Hastings and Dobbs Ferry residents, along with the rest of America, miss out on a long holiday weekend this year, but many people are still looking to make the best of the week.  “Every day is a working day for me,” said Janna Wohl, a Hastings resident. Wohl, who stays home with her son, said she isn’t greatly affected by the holiday. Because there isn’t a long weekend, Wohl said many people would likely have to change plans of going to the beach or attending other celebrations. Wohl said she expects many workers to have a slow week and doesn’t think most people to show up to work on Thursday.

Penny Hofmann, a Dobbs Ferry resident, said she doesn’t think people will be affected much. She said those who normally go on vacation for the holiday will take the whole week off instead of a long weekend.  “It will definitely break up the week and make things slower,” Hofmann said. Hofmann said she plans to spend the holiday golfing and possibly watching fireworks in surrounding towns.  Other residents said people could be upset about the missed holiday weekend, some said. “People will be mad because they won’t be able to enjoy themselves,” said Anthony Ringo, a Hastings resident.

Ringo said people who can afford to take extra time off to make their own holiday weekend won't suffer from the Wednesday holiday.  “It’s another excuse to party,” Ringo said. “I just hope they do it responsibly.”
