Local Residents Prep for Easter with Egg Painting

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. — Easter is recognized in a variety of ways, but one of the most popular ways to celebrate the holiday is by decorating and painting eggs.

The Dobbs Ferry Public Library hosted an egg-decorating event Friday, before the Easter Bunny arrived in the villages. Patrons showed up to dye, trim and make Easter egg creatures at the library.

“We love all the different pretty colors,” said Karen McSpedon of Hastings. “We love it. The Dobbs Ferry Library is the best.”

The two-hour event provided a way for families to enjoy the day off from school and prepare for Easter. With all of next week off from school as well, kids can come to the library to relax and learn over the break.

“We often do it at home but we thought we’d come here this year,” said Mark Stern of Dobbs Ferry. “It’s a neat idea.”

Diane Forcelli, also of Dobbs Ferry, said painting Easter eggs has become a great way for her 4-year-old son, Christian, to try new things.

“He’s starting to become very independent now, where he wants to do it himself,” she said. “I love it, especially on a day off from school; we’re regulars here, anyway, so we try and do as much as we can in the library.”
