New Chemka Pool Programs Highlight Summer Season

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Chemka Pool opens for business on May 26 so the recreation department has worked to bring back some popular programs along with a few new ones.

There will be several programs returning to the Chemka Pool in Hastings this summer for the 2012 season including Little Splashers , Noodle Night along with new ones like Aqua Zumba and the Chemka Pool Regatta. The Pool Regatta is a new program that aims to combine the pool with a little bit of creativity for local kids.

“Using only duct tape and cardboard, teams will try to build a boat that will make it the length of the pool with a two person crew,” the Chemka brochure said. “The team with the last boat floating wins.”

With a twist on a popular workout, the Aqua Zumba class blends Zumba together with aquatic exercises “into a safe, challenging, water-based workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body-toning.”

There will also be new programs such as Bash the Trash, Water Olympics as well as a field trip to the new Rockland Boulders baseball team.

Registration for all programs and pool membership is ongoing, but proof of residency will be required for membership applications.

Membership prices range from $290 to $465 if you register by May 31, then from $136 to $507 after June 1. A non-resident full season family membership costs $636 and a non-resident full season individual membership costs $369.

All summer camp registration forms can be found on the Hastings Recreation Department website under Summer Camp .
