HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - A loud-squawking, one-footed sea gull, who would not reveal his name to The Daily Voice, was spotted eating donated food at MacEachron Park on the Hastings Waterfront Thursday.

Several locals admitted to feeding a group of sea gulls, including one that was missing his right webbed foot, a loss that might slow down a less tenacious bird who must compete with other scavengers for his meals.

Hastings's resident James Leddy said he has fed the footless sea gull, who fends off potential rivals for scraps with a vigorous warning.

"I have fed him also he makes a lot of noise when others try and take his food," Leddy said.

The sea gull was seen devouring a discarded peanut butter and jelly on whole wheat bread sandwich and several scraps of pizza crust lifted by "friends" from garbage receptacles in the area.

It was now known whether the sea gull was a resident of the village or a visitor from nearby Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley, The Town of Greenburgh, Yonkers or somewhere along the Atlantic Ocean.
