Phyllis Paretti, 89, Longtime Dobbs Ferry Resident

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Phyllis D. Paretti of Dobbs Ferry died May 30 at her home. She was 89.

Born and raised in Dobbs Ferry, Paretti was the daughter of John and Rachael DeRosa. She graduated in 1941 from Dobbs Ferry High School, where she was active in the dramatic club. Her high school ambition was to go on a road tour and she did travel extensively with her family. 

Paretti married her husband, Edward, on Nov. 13, 1960 at Church of the Sacred Heart in Dobbs Ferry. For many years, she worked as secretary to the plant manager at Stauffer Chemical Company in Chauncey, N.Y. After retiring and returning twice, Paretti finally retired in 1975. 

She and her husband moved to York, Pa., that year. They lived there until 1983 and moved back to Dobbs Ferry. A devout Catholic, Paretti was a member of the Sacred Heart Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Sacred Heart Seniors, Order of the Sons of Italy and the Dobbs Ferry and Ardsley Seniors. 

Paretti is survived by her husband, Edward; a son, John (Camille) Orlando; a daughter, Marie (Duane Means) Paretti; a brother, Gayton (Marie) DeRosa; an aunt and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by John Orlando Sr. in 1951. 

A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at Church of the Sacred Heart. Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dobbs Ferry Pavilion of St. John's Riverside Hospital.
