Tarrytown's W@tercooler Celebrates Anniversary With BrART Fund-raiser

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Jenifer Ross, the founder and co-owner of Tarrytown's innovative W@tercooler cooperative work space company, has found a way to mark her business's third anniversary while "supporting" a friend and fellow business owner -- by filling the village with BrArt -- yes, Bra Art.

Jenifer Ross and her BrArt teams have been busy creating bra for the W@tercooler's third anniversary party and fund-raiser to support local business owner Jill Rose.

Ross was planning her three-year anniversary celebration when she learned that Tarrytown's Jill Rose, owner of Chiboust bistro, was trying to raise funds to support uncovered medical treatments she needed for her Stage 4 cancer. But how to help was the question.

"W@tercooler Turns Three & Supports a BRAve fellow Westchester County Business Owner as she Battles Cancer" is building that support by creating 100 Art Bras (or BrArts) that will be auctioned off at W@tercooler’s 3-Year Anniversary Party/Fund-raiser in Tarrytown on June 7. The “BrArt Walk” was held on Saturday, May 24, and featured over 50 of the Art Bras to be hung in downtown Tarrytown establishments.

"So far, approximately 50 BrArts have been made by friends and strangers during two evening’s of amazing creative generosity," Ross said. "Each night saw 15-20 women arriving at W@tercooler and getting to work laying out ideas, sewing, hot glue gunning, chatting, and making change in the most “supportive” of ways."

The BrArts will be on display in village stores through June 4 and will be on auction during the party for $100 and up. Local photographer Dorothy Handelman who has now photographed over 45 of the finished pieces.

To keep on theme, W@tercoler will have BRA-zilian music, food and drinks in addition to the talented and sought after body painter Margie Nugent of Making Faces Parties will be painting bras onto live models throughout the evening.

"It has been an amazing process to witness a community come together in such a creative and unique way -- to watch the effort morph and grow in new and interesting ways as people get involved to take ownership," Ross said of the project.

The public is invited to attend the event at 21 North Broadway where Art Bras will be available for sale the evening of the party on June 7 from 8-11:30 p.m. at W@tercooler.
