The Women's Research Education Fund (WREF) will recognize Carpenter during the 30th annual  Women's Hall of Fame and Scholarship Awards Luncheon at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Tarrytown. In addition, WREF will present scholarships to 30 women and girls to advance their education.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said Carpenter’s dedication and the innovative programs she has developed over many years make her an exceptionally worthy recipient of this honor, according to a release.

“Mae Carpenter works tirelessly on behalf of the county’s seniors,” Astorino said. “This award underscores her stature in our community and recognizes the innovative programs she has brought to Westchester over the years. I offer my congratulations and thanks for her efforts.”

Camille F. Murphy, WREF’s executive director, said Carpenter was selected because her work has impacted women and seniors in Westchester as well as on the state and national levels, according to the release.

"She is truly a pioneer,” Murphy said.

Carpenter said she is proud to receive the award, but is sharing the honor with others, according to the release.

“I’m accepting this as a representative for all of those who work in the community and in the aging network,” she said. “Westchester’s senior department is viewed as a laboratory for innovative programs nationwide and all the people who contribute help to bring about positive change. We keep the needs of older women in mind in everything we do.
