The club started in 2016 by past District Governor Steve DeName, was excited to receive the "official" charter from the organization that is actively working to start LGBT clubs across the country, said Mitchell Goldberg, club spokesman.

"There has actually been tremendous support from our parent organization," Goldberg said.

With more than 20 members, not all of whom are LGBT, the club has become involved in several important community service projects including donation drives for Children’s Village in Valhalla and The Toys for Tots campaign in White Plains.

"Our main concerns are homeless youth, hunger, senior needs and vision screening," Goldberg added.

Future plans for the club include a focus on the needs of homeless youth, many of whom are LGBTQ.

"We also plan to provide support to LGBTQ seniors and people with HIV," Goldberg said.

The group, based out of White Plains, meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of the month at The Loft, 252 Bryant Ave., White Plains.
