YONKERS, N.Y. - The Andrus Children’s Center, located on the Hastings-Yonkers border, is sponsoring a Backpack Program for donations of brand new, fully-stocked backpacks for elementary and middle school students.
Andrus will host "Backpack Bonanza Drop-Off" days on Aug. 12 and 15 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. when donors may drop their filled backpacks, meet the staff and enjoy refreshments.
Andrus serves 2,500 children at 14 support sites around Westchester County. The backpack contributions will support children in the special education Orchard School, mental health clinics and various early childhood education, after school and community programs.
Backpacks should contain subject notebooks or marble books, folders, calculator, erasers, homework pad, glue stick, plastic ruler, colored pencils and other items listed in the Backpack Program items guides for kindergarten through sixth grade and middle school.
The backpacks cannot contain scissors, pencil sharpeners, metal rulers and compasses.
