Alternatives Available in Town Until Power Returns

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – As power is restored to more households each day there are still many who are left out in the dark until further notice.  Con Edison reported on its website that, as of Tuesday, 207 customers in Dobbs Ferry and 366 customers in Hastings were still without power.  Con Edison said most power should be restored by 11:59 p.m. Wednesday night.  With no electricity and, in many cases, no heat, there are several options throughout the villages to warm up, charge your electronics and even grab a hot shower.

The James Harmon Community Center in Hastings is open to all local residents as a charging center and a place to warm up throughout the day.

Anthony Tarricone is one of the owners of Equalize Fitness on Executive Boulevard and has offered shower facilities to everyone that has lost power. Equalize Fitness is located at 1 Odell Plaza, just off of Executive Boulevard. If you are in need of housing, Andrus-on-Hudson has offered rooms. You can call the Hastings Police Department for more information.

Dobbs Ferry Village Administrator Marcus Serrano said the Embassy Club is open to every day as a place to keep warm and socialize with other local residents and seniors.

The Village of Hastings is also making the most of the fallen trees and is chipping up the limbs that the Department of Public Works has removed from the streets.  Hastings Mayor Peter Swiderski has asked and encouraged residents to feel free to take as many wood chips as they please.

“Help yourself to as much as you can haul away from the heap you will find in the back of the parking area by the Zinsser Playground/Playing Fields off of Broadway,” Swiderski said in a message to residents.  “This can serve as mulch or ground cover and will decay into nice organic material.”
