American Airlines Grounds Flights After Outages

Update: 5:15 p.m. Tuesday. Flight 5090 to Chicago, which was scheduled to depart Westchester County Airport at 6:29 p.m., has been canceled.

Original story: PURCHASE, N.Y. -- American Airlines is holding all flights on the ground Tuesday afternoon due to intermittent network outages, the airline announced.

Two American flights from Chicago O'Hare Airport are scheduled to land at the Westchester County Airport. Flight 5057 departed Chicago at 12:45 p.m. and landed at 3:45 p.m. The flight is scheduled to depart Westchester and go back to Chicago at 4:35 p.m. As of 3:45 p.m., it was listed as "on time" to depart.

Flight 5090 was scheduled to depart from Chicago at 2:45 p.m. and arrived at 6 p.m. The flight has been delayed and is estimated to depart at 4:20 p.m. and is now estimated to arrive at 7:35 p.m. A return flight to Chicago is still listed as "on time" to depart at 6:29 p.m., though that may change.

"If your travel plans are flexible, there will be no charge if you would like to change your reservation and we will provide full refunds if your travel plans are not flexible," American Airlines said in a statement. "However, we are unable to make changes to current travel plans until we have resolved this issue."
