ARDSLEY, N.Y. – Con Edison crews began restoring power in Ardsley on Thursday, three days after Hurricane Sandy shut down electricity throughout the village.

Village officials said they hope more parts of the village will get power back soon because crews from Vermont are working to restore major electrical feeders on either side of the Saw Mill River Parkway in the village.

“The hope is that once those two are repaired, power could be restored to some portions of the village,” village officials said in an email notice.

Con Edison crews fixed power lines along Route 9A north of Heatherdell Road and American Legion Drive. The Ardsley Public Library was one of several village institutions that opened for business, drawing crowds of residents who wanted to charge their cell phones and electronics even though the building's Wi-Fi was not functioning.

DiCiccio's supermarket, along with the Towne Plaza, Ardsley Mall and the Astoria Federal Shopping Center also opened for business after power outages caused days-long closures.

Power was still out Thursday for much of the downtown area, including village traffic lights.

Village officials directed residents to a shelter at the Theodore Young Community Center in Greenburgh if they needed some place warm to stay.
