ARDSLEY, N.Y. Residents in Ardsley can steer clear of the heat wave over the next few days at the Ardsley Public Library, which will act as a cooling center for anyone looking to cool off.
The library will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to residents in need of an air-conditioned place to relax, said Barbara Berardi, Ardsley village clerk.
If the temperature is going to be high, we usually like to give people a place to go, Berardi said.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures could reach 93 degrees Monday, 95 degrees on Tuesday and 92 degrees on Wednesday in the Rivertowns. The Weather Service recommends that people take the following precautions during excessive heat to avoid heat-related injuries: reduce strenuous activities, dress in light clothing, drink plenty of water, and spend time out of the sun and in air conditioning if possible.
Susan Maggiotto, Hastings village clerk, said that although Hastings is not offering an official cooling center, the public library and James V. Harmon Community Center will both be open during the heat wave.
