Booster Club Betting on Casino Night Success

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Not many fundraisers offer the opportunity to play blackjack, poker, roulette and craps, but the Hastings Yellowjacket Booster Club hopes to make it an annual hit.

The club will be hosting its first Casino Night on Saturday at Equalize Fitness.

“Everyone who purchases a ticket will be given $50 in chips to begin the evening and will have the opportunity to buy more throughout the night,” said Bob Wilt, booster club president.  “The chips have no real cash value and are redeemed for prize tickets at the end of the evening.”

All those who participate can enter their tickets into individual raffles, which include prizes that have been donated by local businesses. Wilt said planning an event of this size took a lot of help and couldn’t have been done without the support of the community.

“Everything at the event has been donated, the prizes, the food, even the cost of the tables,” he said.  “Throughout the planning for this event I have been overwhelmed by the dedication of the people involved and the generosity of our supporters.”

The fundraiser starts at 7:30 p.m. at Equalize fitness, which Wilt said donated its facility for the event free of charge. Fundraisers are a common event in cash strapped economy so Wilt said the booster club needed to do something to help separate it from the pack.

“I think the Casino Night will also give the parents an opportunity to come together and enjoy themselves while showing their support for the student athletes,” he said.
