Burglar Takes Xbox, Laptop From Hastings Home

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The first floor of a two-family home in Hastings was burglarized April 5 between 8:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., according to Hastings police.

Police said a teen resident returned home from school and an Xbox, laptop and assorted jewelry were missing. The burglar entered the home through a side window.  Police said there was no estimated value on the stolen property yet, but an investigation is ongoing.

In other police news:

• A 79-year-old Hastings man told police he received a package in the mail containing a laptop and several batteries that he did not order. He shipped it back to Amazon.com and notified his credit card company of the fraudulent charge. The man also told police he received several suspicious phone calls at 7:30 a.m. from a number identified as Amazon. Customer service from Amazon said it had no record of the call and that it would not make calls at that time. Police were investigating.

• The Graham School went into lockdown just after 7 p.m. April 6 after a man called claiming to be a staff member and falsely reported a stabbing had taken place, police said. An 18-year-old male student was arrested and charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor, police said. Several students reported seeing the suspect make the phone call, according to police.
